Chess Competitions

Friday, March 23rd, 2007

It’s been quite a while since I participated in an interschool chess tournament. For the whole week it has been chess, chess and nothing but chess. On Monday I took quite a lot of bedtimes to revise some chess tactics.. and that’s when I realized how precious time is, and how last minute high leveled procrastination just doesn’t work.

Nyways.

On the first day, I could confidently say that I played like spectacular shit. It was terrible. I was unconfident in my abilities, fatigued from sleeplessness, and stressed from being the 2nd board player. wow. If this was STPM and my performance was like this.. then… *slits throat*

BUt then I guess, luck was on my side.

We played 2 games on the first day. Both my opponents were not strong. However, I blundered and almost gave them the win. Yet by sheer chance and willpower, grinding through nail and teeth I managed to win both games… by time.. lol.

So, lol I broke Alex’s record of being the last player to leave the battle scene.

The next day.. one could say that I learnt my lesson. After going home I took a long rest and came the next day fresh.. the result was 1 win 1 lost 1 draw. LOL Team MBS came out 3rd. mmmmm. No matter.. what matters is we qualify for MSSKL XD

After the team events, it was bliss.

I felt 4710923847kg lifted off my shoulders.. and being naturally 59kg. I started to become lighter than air and accelerated upwards against gravity =.=". hehehe. Well, for the individual’s events, I wasn’t really that concerned because I thought I could simply play.. and that it was better I didn’t win.. STPM is more important.. so I focused on having fun rather than winning.. amazingly enough I played much better.. not exactly what I wanted but lol. Actually my main mission for the 2 days of the individual events was to promote the MBSSKL 2nd Annual Open Chess tournament as much as possible. I felt it was the least I can do. And besides, it was a great opportunity for me to sharpen my speaking and promoting skills. hehehe.. I had fun promoting the event for free. And oh eya.. on the first day of the individuals event i won 3 rounds and drew 1 round.. The 3 rounds I won was against 2 Malay guys and 1 Chinese guy surnmaed Chong as well. Then there’s the draw against Weng Sheng from Sri Cempaka.. Really good player.. felt lucky to draw.. lol.

On the 2nd day which was today.. well, I got to 2 wins.. 1 win against some guy from Sri Sentosa and another guy from Sri Hartamas.. (lots of Sris in the competition @@) and then.. kaboom.. LOL I was in the first board against kaoshao who was last year’s KL champ.. sure enuf I lost.. but sort of.. haihz I think I could’ve won.. but I overestimated the opponent I think.. and underestimated myself.. I could’ve drawed too.. if I didn’t make a few mistakes.. haihz. owell.. if I won I would’ve been champion.. LOL.. but well.. lesson learnt =) IN THE CASE OF OPPOSITE COLOUR BISHOPS, MOVE PAWNS OUT OF ENEMY PAWN’S REACH ASAP.. =P.. then run the KINg

EHEK

My Keyboard spoilt T=T.. now it can’t type gggggggggggg. haihz. everytime I need to press g I need to control+C.. swt swt

so anyway… (don’t feel like typing anymore wif this cacat keyboard @@)

I got 7th for individual event.. wow a new record.. XD And I qualify to represent zon Bangsar to MSSKL too .. woohoo.. never happen before.. lol.. Kuala Lumpur.. here I come!

(right after I finish my homework T.T)

18. 7. 9. who wants to buy 4D.. ngek ngek xD

Today was saringan at my school. MBSSKL.well, seems like I’m starting to finally treat it as my school. Not like the time when I just entered its gates as a fresh post SPM student. There was now an air of pride… not a haughty pride, but a special sense of pride and identity in place of that initial sense of rebellion. Now I sort of understood how Darryn and all the old boys feels for the school . The rules that I once scorned with contempt, are strangely inspiring now.

I’m learning to respect the school, and respect others.

I like the new me.

I once had the perception that MBS was very passive compared to its vibrant and passionate neighbour, VI. But I realize now that strength does not always have to be all thunder and blazes, or trumpets and french horns; it can be silent too… Strength.. the prize, can exist as talent, the strength to believe in one’s dreams, or even faith and hope in the face of adversity, in pursuit of happiness.

Speaking of happy.

The pursuit of happyness.. btw if you didn’t already know, is a film about Chris Gardner. A really inspiring guy. About 90418723048 times more than Bill Gates. I watched it yesterday night. Powerful. I salute you Chris!

Anyway.. coming back to the 9th of March. Wow, its March already? better start studying seriously. Mrs Ramani couldn’t go for the public speaking workshop at MCKL as much as she wanted to. But she did bid me good luck and told me I better win the trip to England because she’s got her list of stuff to buy from England ready.. swt.. lol

Ran around some errands throughout the sports events. Chow Thye emerged 2nd overall?! Awesome! Way to go guys, though the competition was stiff, but you guys never gave up. What sportmanship, what a show! salute! xD

Played a few chess games. With Jia Horng and Chi Loong. Then later Puan Ng approached me to call the embassies. So, the time has finally come. It was time to follow up on the 5 embassies that we visited earlier.

Although initally unconfident, I decided to give it a try anyway. And so after summoning all the good manners I can find in my brain. I dialled for the Australian Embassy.

Phew.. that wasn’t so bad. xD. It seems that the Australian Embassy will publish our competition invitation in its newsletter next week. For the subsequent few embassies, well, I didn’t manage to get a response, since it was lunch time. lol.

Later met Kevinkumar at the prefect’s room. Good thing he was there! We then went to see MR Wong for the contacts for all the embassies in Malaysia. MR Wong was with MR Giam in his private office. MR Wong was most helful as usual, willing to stop whatever he was doing to print the files for us. Kevinkumar later agreed to take care of the rest of the embassies by calling them during the holidays. With that, the embassy mission for the Civics and Welfare society could finally be considered accomplished. PHew.. =)

Went Koon Kei at Jln Petaling for Wantan noodles.. 4.50 for noodle and 1.20 for the drink. Hmm.. expensive? then went to dentist.. bad news? haihz. then it rained.. = =.. good think I got umbrella.. ngek ngek. xD

And I just spent 2 hours typing that too.

1001 nights and I’m still not asleep.

Exam week ended with a PA paper. Disaapointment.

Well well well, tomorrow’s a brand new day… as much as I want to take part in some of the sport events. Sad indeed that I can’t thanks to my leg. But hmm, on the bright side my leg is indeed recuperating, maybe can go for more vigorous sports soon. =)

I don’t know, just feel like keeping quiet these days.

Let’s zee what happened this week. Apart from exams I rearranged my room to make it more feng shui savvy. wowee, feng shui does have merit after all. I can now feel the chi flowing around me as I study. Inspiring and invigorating chi.. lol

And then there was the chess coaching session. It was surprisingly useful and good. I for once actually learnt some stuff from a chess coaching session. Just goes to prove that professional training is different in kind rather than degree compared to newbie training.

Choong Wah became a Christian this week. Well, what a surprise. NOwadays I play chess a lot.. with Choong Wah especially.. everyday after school.. at least one game.. sometimes with Jo Shua.. Well, Jo Shua sure is a patient guy, able to not get psyched by even worst case game conditions. While Choong Wah was well, Choong Wah. Often almost on par with my level. Teong Tee would act as observer.. and I sometimes wonder if she’d really improve watching us play.. [. [ ?

TOmorrow’s a new day.. saringan.. for sports as they call it. Looks like I have some business with my society again. We’re going to organize a recycle for charity competition.. hmm.. if all goes well, we’ll reach the plateau of A cocurriculum marks.

Haihz. I’m feeling down. Well, not very.. but a bit.

Went to Maybank today to get my ATM card renewed.. after waiting for 65 million years, a most ‘courteous’ lady had the audacity to tell me I needed to get my dad’s signature in order to get a new ATM card in a manner…as if I owed her 50, 000 ringgit, a perodua kancil and 3 pieces of goreng pisang. = =

So you think I wasted 0.8 minutes of ur life and 3.8 ATPs for lifting my application form and checking it? wtfish. I spent over an hour in front of your desk just waiting and counting customers and eavesdropping on office clerks chatting with their girlfriends. !!

**takes deep breath**

Oh well.

Having resolved that saying anything while angry never brings anything good. I decided to keep quiet.

Mmm.. I guess it was the right choice after all.. hehe

Going to call some embassies tomorrow.. hmmm good practice for Muet oral? lool..

Oh yeah, my picture appeared in the March issue of Seventeen magazine.. there was an article about my trip to South Africa.. it was really cool! I’m going to laminate it again. heee. But they spelt my name as Chia Jia Loon.. = -" swt

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Seventeen, it’s a mainly lifestyle magazine.. for teenagers. lol

I’m going off now. Nothing else to do but stuff that can’t be done on the computer.

Peace out.
